Avi Ostrowsky Conductor
Avi Ostrowsky was born in Israel in 1939. Although interested in music during his childhood he was 17 before he took up music professionally.

In 1961 after his military service he graduated from the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv having studied composition under Mordechai Seter and conducting under Gary Bertini.

Then followed a period when he worked extensively in Israel with all the leading orchestras including the Israel Philharmonic, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and the Israel Chamber Ensemble.

After two years at the Vienna Academy of Music he graduated in 1968 having studied under Professor Swarowsky. During this period he also visited Sienna to work with Maestro Franco Ferrara.

Avi Ostrowsky also won a variety of scholarships from the American Israel Cultural Foundation during these early years.

In May 1968 he was awarded the first prize at the Niccolai Malko International Competition for Young Conductors in Copenhagen and then followed a series of engagements in Europe.

From 1969 he became the musical director and chief conductor ofthe Haifa Symphony Orchestra, and then founded the Kibbutzim Orchestra and the Beersheva Orchestra, the latter at the request of the government.

On his frequent visits to Europe each year Avi Ostrowsky has also conducted many major orchestras including, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the New Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Danish Radio Orchestra and the BRT/RTB Radio Symphony Orchestra in Brussels amongst many others.

He has also often appeared as guest conductor with various orchestras in England, Holland, Rumania, Denmark, Belgium, Austria and France.
